Fenside Woods

We have two sites on Fenside Road. Grange Wood is situated right on the edge of the town  and is  a small wood, now quite well established. A little further along the road, there is a  car parks at our  Pioneer Wood and The Green Burial Site. The established Beech Wood can also be reached by following the footpath from Sluice Bridge, along the west side of the River Witham. At the point of the far carpark you can follow a path down onto Fenside Road and into our woodland.

Grange Wood PE21 8JJ

This wood is  situated off Fenside Road and was was planted in 2002 with native deciduous trees, oak, ash, rowan, alder and lime plus many shrubs including guelder rose, hazel, hawthorn and field maple. The trees are now well established and the wood provides an easily accessible area to enjoy fresh air in a natural environment. In 2018 the woodland has been extensively pruned to provide a welcoming ambiance.

In 2019 the paths have been widened and the route extended to encourage visitors to extend their walk up to the nearby Pioneer Wood and into Beech Wood.

Beech Wood is located just past Washdyke Lane d on  Fenside Road. The central section was planted in 2001 with beech and hornbeam trees plus field maple, hazel and hawthorn and is now well established.

Beech Wood was extended  2016 with  five acre fields either side of the established wood. The field to the south was sponsored by the Lincolnshire Co-operative Society and named Pioneer Wood. This area has been landscaped with all-weather paths which lead to a pond and a small amphitheatre. It is planted with a mixture of native trees and seeded with wild flowers.

The field to the north has been designated as  Beech Wood Green Burial  “...at one with nature” although this does not affect our visitors who are welcome to enjoy all parts of the site. Either side of the all-weather path are glades in the tree planting which have been seeded with wild flowers and named after the predominant trees which have been planted around them. Green burial is available in the wild flower glades. See Green Burial pages on this site.
